An advocate of open code and free information, the Copyrate, or "Pirate" has taken charge in developing new tools for us.

An independant coder and hacker, the Pirate develops code to help anyone who desires a reality where they can mingle and share without consequence. As he has watched the growth of the internet, he has grown increasingly uncomfortable with the centralization of the internet into a handful of stock-driven corporations that ultimately do not serve the wider public. As such, he helped start this website as a way to fully control his presence on the internet.

FAQ

Do you do any social media at all?

I had an old MySpace account when I was younger. People eventually stopped visiting it, and I swore off social media entirely after the whole information selling scandal. I never got into Facebook or anything afterward. To this day, I mostly stick with IRC.

At this point, my internet presence is mostly centralized here.

Anything interesting in the Pentagon records?

Just because our congressional representatives don't know much about the internet doesn't mean the same applies to the military. I would get taken down before I got within six networks of their system. I ain't trying. Its not worth it.

How about the Disney Vault?

We call it "4chan."

Could you dig up-

I am not cracking any databases now or in the future. Go demand a refund for the referral fee Butler collected.

What book do you keep coming back to?

I have really enjoyed Dennis E. Taylor's Bobiverse series. The hard science fiction appeals to any internet nerd, and he does a really good job at balancing a wide variety of plotlines and characters.

Favorite movie?

2015's The Martian. I am a sucker for the genius survivalist movies. Sort of like watching Bear Grills play a drama.

Do you play any videogames?

I do not play a lot of modern stuff (I am not fond of Steam's DRM, no matter how convenient everyone says it is). However, I still have a collection of older games from before online gaming became big. My favorite would probably be Chrono Trigger. It is a solid strategy game with iconic characters and a complex plot that pulls with tropes and twists that even Butler admits are quite rare these days.

I also enjoy playing some classic Quake II with the guys (I like the simplicity of DOOM, but it is a bit too old-fashioned for Butler). I will also mess around in Halo Custom Edition.

Minecraft?

Not since Microsoft bought it out. I deleted my account when the news came out. Mark is on the server sometimes, but I stay off.

DOOM Deathmatch: You, Butler, and Mark, Free-For-All. Who is winning?

Me.
